Our mission is to help bridge the educational access gap by providing students with free tutoring opportunities regardless of their circumstances.
Our goal is to have students help one another, both academically and socially.
HOW FREE PEER TUTORS WORKS!
FPT matches students to high school volunteer tutors in 3 easy steps
Students browse tutors and find the best tutor for them
Students request session times with tutors through our scheduling service
Tutors approve the session request and the session is booked! *Sessions are currently happening over Google Meet
*All the high schooler tutors have been trained by the Director of Community Engagement at Marin Country Day School, Darcy Ellsworth Yow.
"The abrupt switch to remote learning wiped out academic gains for many students in America, and widened racial and economic gaps."
- Dana Goldstein, NYT
WHAT WE DO
Through virtual meetings, we connect middle and elementary school students to high schoolers in the Bay Area. One on one meetings between students provides a sense of companionship as many kids express feelings of isolation during this difficult time. So far, our group of high school students has worked with over 50 families and 7 schools in the Bay Area. In the meetings, the high school students can practice any challenging academic material with the younger students, or simply provide guidance and friendship through conversations.
Live Learning (Free Peer Tutors) was a godsend at the beginning of summer. The tutor from Marin Academy has given (my son) Will the confidence he needs to start online learning. Instead of worrying about schoolwork, he is excited about starting the 5th grade.
